Cate Blanchett to receive Impact Award at the British Short Film Awards
She is recognised for supporting the Displacement Film Fund, backing films about migration and displacement.

Cate Blanchett will receive the Impact Award at the British Short Film Awards for her work supporting the Displacement Film Fund, an initiative focused on backing short films about migration, exile, and statelessness. The fund gives filmmakers from affected communities the resources to tell urgent, human stories with clarity and reach. The article frames short films as a serious cultural force, with growing influence across audiences and the wider industry, from shaping conversations to launching careers. Blanchett’s involvement brings visibility and weight to this space, reinforcing the role of storytelling in driving awareness and change.

As the CEO of CenterFrame, I watch a ton of short films every year, and one thing is clear: short films are cultural forces in their own right.
That is why I am proud that The British Short Film Awards are honouring Cate Blanchett with the Impact Award for her work with the Displacement Film Fund.

The Displacement Film Fund
The Displacement Film Fund was launched in partnership with the Hubert Bals Fund at the International Film Festival Rotterdam to support short films responding to global displacement. It provides funding to filmmakers telling stories of migration, exile, and statelessness, often from within the communities directly affected.
Short films are uniquely suited to this task. They can be made and shared with immediacy, capturing moments of transition, loss, resilience, and hope with striking intimacy. The films supported by the fund are not abstract political statements. They are human stories told with urgency and care.

Why We Are Honouring Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett has actively championed the fund on international platforms, helping bring visibility and credibility to stories which must be told and might otherwise struggle to be seen.
At The British Short Film Awards, we celebrate excellence in storytelling, but we also recognise those who use short films to make a tangible difference. Blanchett’s work with the Displacement Film Fund demonstrates how storytelling can have a seismic impact on those whose stories need to be told and heard.
The Rising Power of Short Films
There has never been a more exciting time for short films. More and more audiences are embracing powerful storytelling in compact form, as they realise that brevity does not mean that they lack depth.
In fact, shorts can drive social impact, influence features, launch careers, and shape global conversations. From refugee stories to climate narratives and intimate character pieces, they have become spaces for narrative innovation and activism.
Celebrating Storytelling and Responsibility
At the British Short Film Awards, we celebrate extraordinary storytelling, but also the responsibility that comes with it.
When a short film shifts understanding, amplifies an exiled voice, or builds empathy across borders, that is real impact.
Honouring Cate Blanchett is about recognising the ecosystem she has helped strengthen through the Displacement Film Fund, where short films become instruments of awareness and change.
At CenterFrame, we have built a community around the power of story, and I believe short films can be one of the most inspiring shifts in our industry.
They may be short, but they are not small.

If you are telling stories that matter, we want to see them.
Submissions for The British Short Film Awards are now open.
