Frayed

Unknown actor Jane is thrust into the spotlight when visionary auteur Gianna casts her in “Frayed”, Gianna’s comeback film. Jane will play “Stella”, a mysterious drifter who stumbles upon a commune offering shelter to troubled women, run by charismatic “Ike” (played by the enigmatic Rory). Under Gianna’s meticulous, almost telepathic guidance, Jane dives deep into the role, her natural talent winning Gianna’s warm praise, while Rory is humiliated by Gianna. Despite Jane’s chemistry with Rory, tension festers between them when he challenges her true commitment to the craft. Meanwhile, Jane struggles to cast out intrusive memories of her mother; a once-celebrated musician who spent her final years in bitter isolation. When Gianna’s praise of Jane turns to vitriol, Jane spirals. As Stella moves scene-by-scene towards the sinister truth of Ike’s commune, the boundaries between real and imaginary, character and actor blur. Ingénue turns predator, victim becomes persecutor, and the symbiotic quest for artistic perfection propels all three players in this toxic triangle towards the brink.
